Fun in the Sun

We had beautiful weather while we were in North Carolina so we spent as much time at the beach as possible! Here are some more pics from our fun in the sun!

Random FUN

This post is random photos from our vacation fun!
The girls loved Grammy reading them their bedtime stories!

Eating lunch!

I had to post this photo of Anna with her feet up on the counter. She has been doing this since we started putting her in a high chair at around six months. She is always propping her feet up on something! So funny!

Family dinner!

Claire & Anna in bed with Aunt Bethie watching 'The Sound of Music'. Claire got to stay up late to watch it!

Claire's Seashell Collection (according to Claire!!!).

They LOVE each other! Ben & I were so proud of both Claire & Anna. They really did exceptionally well during both 11 hour car rides and during our week stay. We couldn't have asked anymore from them!

Making our own pizzas for lunch!

Shackleford Banks

We had a "Girls' Day Out" and Beth, Grammy & I decided to go to Shackleford Banks. Shackleford is known as the best place for shelling on the east coast and also know for the wild horses that live on the island. If you have a second you should visit www.shacklefordhorses.org/about.htm . The history of the wild horses is so interesting and simply amazing! The horses have been on the island since the 16th century and DNA testing has proven they are descendants of the Spanish horses and presumed to have been brought over by Columbus. We were ecstatic to get to see several of the horses up close and personal! We also found some pretty neat sea shells!
The three of us on one of the oldest marinas in the country in Beaufort. Beaufort was founded in 1722 as an English colony making it one of America's oldest cities. It was a beautiful and quaint town and we had fun walking the streets a bit before our ferry ride over to Shackleford!

Me & Beth with one of the stallions! So amazing!!

Two of the wild horses with the beautiful ocean in the background!

Grammy found some HUGE shells. We all found some ridiculously large shells AND... we had to carry them around for three hours as we toured the island! It was quite the workout!

Showing off some of our finds! We were quite the shellers!

This picture doesn't even begin to show the amount of shells on the beach. I'd never seen anything like it and I can understand why this is one of the best shelling areas in the country!

We were proud of ourselves! Ha!!!

Walking through swamps to find more wild horses. Beth loved that part!! I have to say that I was a very impressive navigator!

All our work paid off! We came upon two wild horses as they were grazing. They never once even stopped eating to look at us. They were not interested in us in the least!

Stunning! And to think these horses have lived on this island for over 400 years.

Our ferry ride back to Beaufort! We truly had a wonderful time together! What a trip!

Beach House

We rented a beautiful beach house for our beach vacation! We were so happy with the house and of course, you can't go wrong with the location! It was truly a relaxing time away. Every morning we'd wake up to the sound of the crashing waves and a view of the ocean. We all had balconies that we could sit on and watch the ocean! So nice!
This is the view from our house!

Our beach house! There was a hose and shower as you walked back to the house to wash the sand off your feet. Claire quickly learned how to use it by herself!

We also had a heated pool and jacuzzi! We spent a lot of time in the pool!

We are proud to say that we only ate one meal out the whole week! We split up the cooking responsibilities and it made is so much easier. It's so hard to go out with little ones, so having a fully stocked kitchen made it convenient to cook at the house!

Going to the beach... just feet from our house!

We literally had the beach to ourselves most of the week because we were on a private beach. It was so nice and laid back. Just PERFECT!

More fun in our pool!

Papa & Anna sitting on the deck watching the ocean! We all spent a lot of time on the deck and balconies, but not near as much as Papa! He sat out there all the time! It was so beautiful and relaxing!

Ben & I walking on the beach at sunset! It was lovely!

Just a few photos of our beach house! We loved it!!!

Hopefully we'll be back!

Our Beach Vacation!

We just got back from our beach vacation to Emerald Isle, North Carolina. We had so much fun on our first family vacation! We've taken several short trips with the girls, but this was our first week long get-away. We went with Grammy, Papa and Aunt Beth. It was a much needed vacation and we all had a wonderful time!
Going to the beach for the first time and it was also the first time Claire & Anna have ever seen the ocean! What a priceless moment!

The girls thoroughly enjoyed playing in the sand!

Nothing quite like the beach!!!
